Feast on the Street PHX

FeastLogo_Date-TimeIf you haven’t already heard, that probably means your head is buried deep in the desert somewhere or you forgot that Phoenix was a cool place to be. Maybe both, but that’s okay, you know now. The crazy thing is, we can’t decide if we’re more excited or more strung out from planning our Spring Swap next weekend or Feast on the Street THIS WEEKEND.feastSo what is Feast on the Street?

Feast is a community dining experience celebrating art and food in the desert. On Saturday, April 13, 2000+ people will come together around a half-mile long dining table in downtown Phoenix, transforming First Street into a pedestrian promenade. This free public event is a community project initiated by the ASU Art MuseumRoosevelt Row CDC and the artists Clare Patey and Matthew Moore.

feast_femFeast on the Street will include diverse entertainment and activities including roving musicians and street performers, floats, mobile gardens, story-tellers and food trucks, food demonstrations and tasting stations. See the Schedule of Events for more details on Feast experiences.

Due to our involvement in planning community events downtown and our willingness to raise our hands, the board at Roosevelt Row CDC asked if we’d like to be involved in helping plan Feast.

Uh…heck yes we would!

Leading the planning committee are Mandi Wimmer and Greg Esser. Mandi is a professional event planner and all around badass boss lady who has planned AZ Centennial and the Superbowl (NBD) and Greg Esser is the Director of ASU Art Museum, owner of Eye lounge, Board Member of Roosevelt Row CDC and too many others to name. Mandi brought us up to speed and we’ve been running with Feast and Swap simultaneously ever since.

Kelsey Wong took on planning and coordinating the VIP Lounge for all the city officials, sponsors and committee members and Karla Rasmusson is heading up the Vendor booths and staging of the event on 1st street (including one for CO-OPhx, look out for us woo!).

We are so excited to be helping with this event, not only do we believe in it and what it’s doing for our city but we get to collaborate with some of the major movers, shaker, change makers and creative, brilliant minds in our community from Global Institute for Sustainability to ASU Art Museum to Downtown Phoenix Partnership, Stateside Presents, City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, Devour, Local First AZ, Roosevelt Row CDC, the list goes on.

garden_hatIf we haven’t convinced you yet that you need to stop whatever you’re doing and put this in your calendar, share it, tweet about it etc. Then let us continue, this free event will have over 25 delicious local food trucks, 5 live local bands including Chica Dust, Bad Cactus Brass Band and Dry River Yacht Club (epic!) and a beer garden with Four Peaks & Lumberyard brews. So believe you me, it’s going to be the best event in downtown since ever.

Literally off the charts, you want to be there!

Whether you walk, bike, or UBER it (private-car service, use discount code FEASTVIP for $20 off your first ride, which is likely $15-45 dependent on where you live, but parking will be abysmal so try it!) we hope to see you at Feast Saturday 2-9pm and Spring Swap next Sunday 11am-4pm!
